There was an article published recently that had a 'Top 10' list of the most relaxing songs. I don't know about the list (some I found a bit 'over-stimulating') but I do agree that music can play a role in relaxation. Obviously the genre of 'Ambient' music is a good place to look.
Here is the 'most relaxing' song according to the list : Weightless by Marconi Union

Compartmentalize
It would seem it is important to 'compartmentalize' your thoughts so that you are not dragged down by something that worries you. It's important to know that even during a stressful time you can find other things to absorb yourself in that are enjoyable. Probably everyone has stressful things to deal with and it's probably best to get some 'good timnes' during these stressful times. Practice makes better.

Be miserable on a comfy mattress
Inside of a IKEA Hovag mattress |
I bought an IKEA Hovag pocket-sprung mattress. This is regarded a 'mid-range' at a decent price. I bought the 'firm' and will use a memory foam mattress topper for 'padding'. My old mattress was cheap and I had a back injury 6 years ago which never healed on my old (open coil) mattress but now has healed within a week on the new Hovag. Personally I would suggest a luxury pocket sprung mattress but there are a few types of mattresses, with memory foam seeming to be the most popular now. I am no mattress expert though.
So, if you are miserable, depressed, at least make sure you have a luxury mattress to lie on. You deserve it.

Slow motion for anxiety
This post is intended for those with great anxiety that tend to move around and express themselves very fast like a headless chicken
Practice moving around in slow motion privately
At first this will seem bizarre and unnatural, as your brain is used to being ordered to move around everywhere immediately. But you probably do not absorb information very well in such a state of mind. A bit like the tortoise and the hare. Another analogy (car) would be revving the engine in too low a gear. If you are a 'greyhound' type, and for instance jump when the phone rings, this may do you some good.
The idea is to move around slowly until you relax and move at a slower more approaiate speed naturally. When you are alone in the house, you can practice this as much as you like. For instance walking and anything physical in the house (e.g. doing the dishes).
If you are a greyhound type this will hopefully put you in a much more relaxed zone where you absorb more information and are in a much better state of mind.
